Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) works with Opendatasoft to deliver award-winning data.gov.bh portal
Paris, October 30, 2024. Opendatasoft today congratulated Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) on the country’s rise in the recent United Nations (UN) E-Government Survey. The 2024 survey has seen Bahrain move from the V1 class to the top class (VH) within the Very High index group, putting Bahrain in the highest category for e-government globally.
The United Nations E-Government Survey provides a comprehensive assessment of the digital government landscape across all 193 member states. Open public data is fundamental to successful e-government, supporting the UN’s 11 principles of effective digital government, especially around transparency, collaboration and participation. The report commented that “Bahrain has established itself as a digital development leader through inclusive and multifaceted approaches. The country has implemented agile processes and advanced technologies, enhancing its digital infrastructure and fostering a vibrant digital ecosystem.”
Launched by iGA in June 2023, and underpinned by Opendatasoft’s technology, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s open data portal brings together 432 datasets from 39 public entities. Available in Arabic and English, the portal provides government employees, policymakers, businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, citizens and residents with a one-stop shop for information about the Kingdom. Over 7,000 monthly users from across the world visit the platform, making 950,000 monthly API calls and delivering on the iGA’s objectives of making government more digital and accessible for everyone.

As well as the United Nations, the portal and iGA’s Open Data Policy has been recognized by users and the wider ICT sector. It won in the best open data initiative category at the 2023 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Digital Government Awards, demonstrating the strengths of the overall approach and the impact of the portal across the region since it was launched.
